Marathon Training, Commence!

Welp, my first training run for Chicago was supposed to be Tuesday but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. I woke up at 5, looked out my window at the gloomy sky and my morning brain told me to just get back in my warm, cozy bed. So I did. I didn’t fight it and went back to sleep but I wish I had just sucked it up. Since I didn’t run in the morning, I had planned on just going right after work but as the day progressed, my stomach started to hurt more and more. Once I got home, all I wanted to do was crawl up in a ball with the heating pad and lay in bed… I just couldn’t get myself out the door. I told myself that I would try to go for a run around 8pm but it didn’t happen either. So, I’m pretending yesterday was day 1 of training and that Monday didn’t happen/doesn’t count.

I tried to wake up early to run yesterday but that didn’t happen again so I brought a change of clothes with me to work and went running when I got out. First training run in the books & it felt so good to get back out there! I haven’t been doing that much running the last 3 weeks since Hatfield McCoy Marathon (probably ran about 6 times) so I was slightly nervous that I would die but I actually felt wonderful & it made me remember just how much I love running! 5 miles @ an easy pace with beautiful views of Lake Champlain. What more can you ask for? It was supposed to be 7 miles but I decided that I was going to switch Wed & Thurs runs.

That being said, I switched them up & finally woke up early to get a run in! My alarm went off and I popped out of bed & hit the road running 🙂 7 miles with 7 x 20 sec hills @ 90% effort at the end of the run. I’m lucky to live next to the perfect road for hill workouts. This road is also probably one of my favorites to run on. It can be quite challenging at parts as some of the hills are very steep but it’s a back road and I usually just get lost in the moment while out there and don’t even notice.

BBG Update:

I’m going to start over on Monday (7/13). I haven’t been giving my 100% effort to this workout and that is something I want to do or else I won’t achieve the results that I’m looking for. I completed all 3 workouts the first week but only did 1 workout during the second week. Week 3 started on Monday and I have yet to complete a workout. So, I think it’s best to begin again. I thought about continuing from where I’m at & pretending I completed the first 3 weeks properly but what’s the point of half-a$$ing something like this? Trick question -> there is no point. That won’t do me any good & won’t get me to where I want to be. I’m mad at myself for not sticking to it like I had planned but all I can do now is start over with more determination than before.

Bottom line is, I haven’t been following through with all of the things I keep saying I’m going to do: I haven’t been waking up early to workout. I didn’t do the BBG workouts to the best of my ability. I didn’t run day 1 of Chicago training which I was so looking forward to doing. I haven’t been on track with my diet. The only person who can change this stuff is me. I know what I need to do but for some reason, I don’t do it. I’m hoping that as I get back into the swing of marathon training, everything else will fall into place. I keep thinking back to earlier in the year when I was in such a good early morning workout routine & how much better/easier it made my life. I will get back there. In the meantime, I need to just take it one day at a time and try not to beat myself up over little things that are all in my power to change. NO EXCUSES!

I spent my lunch hour yesterday looking at motivating quotes to help myself get back on track. These were some of my favorites:

motivate body mind will follownew beginno excuses lets godoonly thing standing between

Oh! I tried Tofutti cream cheese this morning. It’s pretty good but definitely not the real deal. It will beIMG_7435 something to get used to but it absolutely works as a cream cheese substitute! I wiped off half of what they put on since I’m not used to the flavor but I did enjoy it like any other bagel. I even forgot it was Tofutti for a second while eating the second half of it! I also got a fresh brewed iced tea that I was looking forward to drinking… except this happened when I got out of my car:IMG_7436

Fail.

Happy Thursday!

PS- I’m heading to NJ for the weekend after work for TAYLOR SWIFT! I can’t wait at all! I’m also excited to do my long run along the ocean ❤

I think we all have weeks like that! It’s so much easier to procrastinate or skip workouts early on in the training cycle because you know you have so much time to make it up and it doesn’t matter as much.

I’m having to do 100% of my running in the evening this week and it’s driving me insane. I miss my AM runs already! It isn’t for lack of trying though: scheduling and/or runs that are too long for AM are forcing me. I can’t wait for my life to be back to normal next week!

  2. A long run on the ocean sounds SO good right about now! We all have those days when bed sounds much more cozy than a training run, glad you feel back on track, though!

  4. Great job kicking off your training! I don’t think it’s bad that you gave in to sleep – you probably needed it. Your body knows when enough is enough!!

Hi there! I just stumbled upon your blog, saw that you were training for a marathon and doing kayla’s BBG at the same time. I’m on round 3 now and I’ve just signed up to Paris marathon (first timer!) and was just wondering how you kept up with both training plans?

    1. Woohoo congrats on signing up for your first marathon!! So exciting 🙂 to be honest, I only stuck with BBG for about 3 weeks in my training schedule then kept trying to restart it and was having trouble because of how sore I was.. Then my training fell apart because I got into a little rut. So, I guess I didn’t really keep up with either.. I was trying to do my runs in the mornings then BBG at night just so I was over working myself. I wish I could say I stuck with them both but that’s not the case. For me, I think the only way I will follow through with BBG is or that to be my only focus…
