4th of July Weekend & Chicago Training Goals

This weekend went by way too quickly. I had such an amazing time with all my friends that I can’t believe it’s already over & I’m so sad that it is! I don’t mean to brag but….. I truly do have the best friends in the whole entire world. Even though we all live far from each other, we always pick right back up where we left off. We spent the weekend laughing and making memories with each other that will last forever. Some highlights from the weekend:

1st Annual Hop On Tour -> Maria’s Dad started a brewery tour bus business so of course we went one on this weekend. To say it was fun was an understatement. If you’re ever in the Cooperstown area, I highly suggest going on one if you’re looking for a good time!
Chickens are friends, not food 😉  huge shout out to this ^ dude.. he edits my posts!  JKLM -> these girls are tattooed to my foot

As you can see, the weekend consisted of non-stop laughs & smiles and lots of love. I love all you guys so much and can’t wait for our next adventure.

Now that it’s back to reality, Chicago training starts this week! Today marks 12 14 weeks (thanks to Hanna @ The Millennial Next Door for the correction!! Let’s not get ahead of myself…) out from race day which means IT’S GO TIME! Mondays are my rest days this training cycle (which is new for me) so technically my first training run isn’t until Tuesday but I’m going into training mode starting tomorrow morning. My goals this training cycle include:

  • Hit all of my training runs at the prescribed paces
  • Focus on my diet more to help better my body & facilitate my recovery
  • Take it one day at a time/try not to get ahead of myself
  • Stay positive & determined to run a 4:30
  • Become a more confident runner
  • HAVE FUN!

I can’t wait to see what’s to come in the next 3 months 🙂

Good luck with training! I like how you have multiple goals and think that’s important. It looks like you had a fun holiday weekend with the family, too.

Good luck with training! You can do anything you set your mind to, just work hard, don’t give up, and practice practice practice your goal race pace!

Sorry to be “that girl”….but isn’t October 11th actually 14 weeks away? 🙂

    1. Thank you :)! You’re not that girl. I’ve been sitting at my desk all day trying to figure out the right amount of weeks away. I saw someone posted 13 earlier this morning and you just said 14… I need to get my shit together!!

Haha! It is 14 weeks from yesterday (July 5th); I just double checked on my calendar. So technically it’s between 13 and 14. I feel like ever since I started running races I count away my whole life in weeks!

  6. Good luck with your first week of training! I am also running Chicago this year! I have run it twice before and it never gets old – running through the city with millions of people cheering 🙂

    1. I’m SO excited!!!!!! You made me even more excited with that last part 🙂 What would you say is the hardest part of the course/anything specific I should train for?

      1. Truth be told, it’s not tricky physically (for a marathon that is!) But mentally there’s one spot that’s really tough for me. You are lucky enough to have tons of people cheering you on the whole time (especially if you display your name, everyone will shout it!), until about mile 20 or 21 when it becomes quiet and dead! I figure its because spectators start heading to the finish line at that point. But after having all that support it’s really hard to have it go away during the toughest part of the race when you need it most. Otherwise, it’s flat, fast, and fun!

      2. Thanks for the heads up where the crowd support lessens!! I CAN’T WAIT! I’ve never been to Chicago either!

Great goals!!! Good luck! What sort of dietary stuff are you focusing on to help aid in recovery?

    1. Thanks so much!!! I’ve been transitioning to a plant-based diet over the past few months… slowly but surely. I removed all meat from my diet (besides fish) during my last training round earlier in the year & absolutely saw in a difference in my recovery times post long runs. This time around, I’m trying to really focus on making sure I re-fuel post runs as I’m guilty of not doing this most of the time (besides after long runs). I’m also really going to try to focus on more stretching & foam rolling! Got any other suggestions?

I’ve been a vegetarian for YEARS and I swear by it! I’d definitely add some yoga. Foam rolling is something I need to get better at too. It just sits there and is so good for you and yet I find every excuse not to use it!

      2. Hell yeah to vegetarian! I was doing yoga for a bit during my last training round but stopped so I think it would be a good idea to incorporate it back in once week or something. Same about the foam roller, it feels so good once I do it but takes me a few days to be like okay you should use it!
