Monday Things

Got a serious case of the Monday afternoon blues going on right now. I wish the weekends could be just one day longer...

Weekend Recap: My goal this summer is to make it to the farmers market every free weekend I have. I took a ride over Saturday morning for some fresh flowers but ended up leaving with peonies galore, a huge soft pretzel & tasty green juice (kale + apple + ginger + lemon). With the boyfriend in a fishing tournament all weekend, I had some time to get things done around the house that I’ve been meaning to for a while. I finally cleaned out what is now formerly known as our “junk room” and I’m determined to keep it clutter free. It felt great to get rid of stuff that only served the purpose of collecting dust. It’s now so much neater when you walk in which means it isn’t causing me stress anymore! Next is the closet in that room, which holds all of my work clothes -> it’s time to throw out the items that I never wear but I’m pushing that chore back until later this week. I put together a shelving unit that’s been sitting in its box for at least 8 months. Also… I found my pet rock while cleaning!! I had been looking for him for a while now and feared the worst. Judge me all you want, but I’ve had Steve since June 11, 2002. That’s 13 years! #RockMom
I can’t help but laugh at myself but hey, if you don’t have a pet rock then you’re missing out. Sunday morning called for snuggles & a deep clean of the kitchen followed by Father’s Day things. We went over to my boyfriend’s grandparents’ house for lunch. His Papa gave me a tour of his amazing garden and now I want to start my own! I love the self-sustainability aspect of it as well as a new hobby to enjoy. He sent me home with fresh broccoli, basil leaves, and romaine lettuce. Overall, it was a much needed relaxing weekend.

Running: Remember how I was looking forward to those couple of weeks post race of just running and not following a training plan? Well here I am, one week in, and I’m ready to rock again! I didn’t run until Saturday morning following the marathon and my legs felt a bit heavy but nothing like they were post VT marathon. On top of feeling good physically, Chicago is in a short 16 weeks so the it’s go time switch in my brain has flipped on. Tonight I’m speaking with my running coach about my Chicago goals and the best route to reach them. He helped me out during my training round earlier this year, making sure I was running certain types of runs at the correct pace, but this time I’m getting a lot more guidance from him. He’s awesome. I think once I figure out what my training schedule is going to look like then I’ll be able to relax and ‘just run’ for another 2 weeks but I do know one thing… I’m ready to go!! Oh! And Jurgen, who paced me in the NJ marathon, completed the TGNY100 which is a 100 mile road race throughout NYC! I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing him again in November at the Philly marathon. It would be awesome if I could run with him again!

BBG Week 1I planned on waking up early this morning to complete Day 1 of BBG but my bed was just too comfortable & I ended up snoozing my alarm way too many times (whoops!). I’ll check in later this week about how these first few workouts go. I’m still feeling extremely motivated & excited to get the ball rolling!

Scott JurekHave you guys been following his journey at all? Blows. My. Mind. He’s attempting to break the Appalachian Trail speed record. Meaning he’s traveling ON FOOT from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine and hopes to complete the 2,168.1-mile route in 42 days (by July 6). This would totally shatter scott jureklthe current record set by Jennifer Pharr Davis back in 2011 by 4 full days!! He’s 27 days & hundreds of miles in, averaging about 50 miles a day! Remarkable. Once he makes his way to VT, I might have to go hunt him down! To be able to get some miles in with the one & only Scott Jurek would be truly amazing but keeping up with him would be a challenge. He’s inspired me on multiple occasions to want to run an ultramarathon, but come mile 22 of a marathon I always change my mind about that goal because doubt tends to creep in. Who knows what will happen though 🙂

I hope you have a Happy Monday!
